Gov. Kay Ivey issued a stay at home order effective Saturday at 5 p.m. in hopes of fighting the spread of COVID-19. The order was announced at a news conference on April 3.
In compliance with this order, Troy University is changing its guidance regarding students retrieving possessions from residence halls and consolidating those staying into two buildings.
Students may leave their possessions on campus and are not required to retrieve them as long as the order is in place, even after the original April 12 deadline. The university will contact residents with instructions when it is safe to allow them back to retrieve their possessions.
Students who are staying on campus may remain in their residence halls, instead of being consolidated into two dorms as originally planned.
Residents who wish to stay must also complete an extended housing request form.

Everyone in Alabama is ordered to remain at home except to:
- Buy groceries and supplies
- Go to work
- See family members
- Obtain necessary services (such as doctor’s appointments or hospital visits)
- Take care of others
- Attend religious services
- Travel as required by law
- Go outside for safe outdoor recreation
Many “non-essential” businesses, such as salons and retail stores, have been closed, and gatherings of 10 or more people are still prohibited.
Attorney General Steve Marshall said a violation of the state health order is punishable by a fine of up to $500 for each offense.
